Summer Wedding Flowers - Sophie, and Jake’s marquee garden wedding.

A North Yorkshire wedding

Sophie & Jake - Home is where the heart is

Hello all, I’m super happy to bring you the story of Sophie & Jake’s just beautiful Summer wedding flowers for a marquee garden wedding, held at Jake’s family home and their gorgeous grounds.

The colour palette

Sophie & Jake were introduced to me by Rosie of Rosie Green Events, wedding planner extraordinaire, with whom I love working. With Rosie at the helm, we talked through the couple’s palette of vibrant jewel colours for their North Yorkshire wedding. As our couple lived in London at the time, Rosie and I got the ball rolling, from which I drew up a rough scheme of work.

The wedding flowers

A follow-up meeting was then set to meet Sophie & Jake and Jake’s Mum in person. We all immediately hit it off and bonded wonderfully over design ideas and the gorgeous, rich colour palette of emerald green, topaz, ruby red and sapphire blue. The wedding flowers were to embrace celebration and convey a fun festival vibe with flags and ribbons adorning the outdoor space - just perfect for a marquee garden wedding.

Everyone agreed that the floral designs should feature seasonal summer wedding flowers and be soft, wild and unstructured, which would fit perfectly with the look and feel of this North Yorkshire wedding.

Seasonal Summer Wedding Flowers

Given the inspiration and setting was a festival-style marquee garden wedding, sustainable summer wedding flowers were essential. I managed to source gorgeous locally grown Yorkshire seasonal flowers and foliage, which featured hydrangea, dahlia, zinnia, setaria, phlox, and the piece de resistance, chocolate cosmos. I’ll explain just how special these beauties are later!

Simple bottles with stems of seasonal flowers were placed along the guest tables, along with larger scale urn arrangements

Decorating Outdoor Weddings

During the site visit to Jake’s family home, I decided to utilise the existing structures in the garden and create feature installations. The first archway would be viewed from the ceremony area and would also be captured in the all-important confetti shots and the second archway (pictured below) would lead guests from the house and ceremony area up to the marquee where the reception would take place.

Marquee garden weddings can be quite a distance from the house and so when decorating outdoor weddings it’s important to welcome guests into the marquee. To ensure this North Yorkshire wedding felt homely, we also created two large-scale pillars that stood on either side of the entrance.

The second of two arches leading out of the garden to the reception area, you can just see the pillars at the entrance to the marquee.

Marquee wedding flowers

Marquees are beautiful. But they are big, white, spaces. So my tip for marquee wedding flowers is to go big and bold. Make a statement.

We did just that for Sophie and Jake, in the form of two huge, large-scale hoops filled with an abundance of jewel-coloured blooms and lots and lots of lush foliage. And, I’m so glad we did, because they appear in the background of so many of the photographs and create such a wonderful celebratory, party atmosphere.

Home is where the heart is

So my thoughts on creating summer wedding flowers for a marquee garden wedding? Well, its all about the people, I think. Good wedding industry people and a wonderful family. We couldn’t have been made more welcome by everyone and it was an absolute joy to work with such a lovely couple and all their incredible relatives too. Sophie and Jake’s North Yorkshire wedding truly proved that home is where the heart is! Tx

My thanks to Tim Dunk Photography for the beautiful images, and Rosie Green Events for introducing me to this most wonderful family and couple. They are both wonderful industry peeps and I couldn’t recommend them more highly.
